Hard Truck Demo - answers to frequently asked questions

  1. When I click HELP, it won't start, saying the help file was made for a different version of Windows (or that it cannot be found)...

You can download updated help files here unzip them and place into a directory where you installed the demo (i.e. C:\Program Files\Hard Truck Demo\) or, download updated version of the demo from http://www.softlab-nsk.com/Demo/truck_demo.html

  2. In the demo I can not exit the terminal. How do I open the gates in the tunnel?

In the demo only one of the exits leads anywhere, all the other are not supported, not in the demo. You got the wrong exit. The right one is under the green light.

  3. Will the game run on 8Meg of memory?

Not guaranteed. The requirements are 16 Meg.

  4. When I start the game, a banner appears: "A required .DLL file, XXXXX.DLL, was not found" and the game won't run.

Most likely, this DLL is a part of DirectX, a Windows component that is required to run the game. It comes with Hard Truck, not not with the demo, to save space and download time. DirectX you can download from http://www.microsoft.com/directx

  5. I do not hear the music.

You should not, because there's no music in the demo, only in the actual game.

  6. I press <M> and the monitor does not appear.

The monitor does not appear in a small window and in the lowest screen resolution.

  7. I have Windows NT 4.0 and I have installed Service Pack 3 as was adviced. The game runs, however multiplayer does not work - clients do not connect to the server.

You should install Direct Play 5a. For that, log in as administrator, and start dplay50s.exe. Then restart your computer. Though DirectPlay 5 is a part of DirectX 5, is does set up and fix the problem. The rest of the DirectX components will remain version 3 as after Service Pack 3 was installed.

  8. What disk requirements are?

65 megabytes for the demo, and, if you do not yet have DirectX installed, it, too, will take some megabytes. The help file is the same as in the game; it has a chapter on installation procedure, and there disk requirements listed, but they apply to the game, not to the demo of it.
