  What's new in DDClip

You can read the history of new features added and bugs fixed in different versions of DDClip on this page.

Important: There are 3 packages of DDClip with different capabilities and price. Only DDClip Pro contains all features listed below. Please read the table with description of differences between packages for more details.

DDClip Pro 3.67

Fixed bugs:

  • Fixed problem under Windows Vista: when autosave project is failed, the program shows error message that was impossible to be closed - fixed. Now autosave is turned off when failed, and it is recommended to specify another autosave folder (instead of 'C:\' by default) and turn on autosave again if needed
  • After separation of video and audio in a single AVI clip (with the "Separate Audio and Video" command of clip local menu) and moving of audio some time later from start of video, the program was crashed on playback start
  • AVI files created in Adobe Premiere Pro were opened as uncompressed video
  • Some other minor bugs

DDClip Pro 3.61

Fixed bugs:

  • If a project was saved when the "Clip Collection" window is closed, the project couldn't be loaded after with the message "Project has invalid format"
  • Some minor problems when loading/exporting AVI files
  • Some other minor bugs

DDClip Pro 3.51

New features:

  1. Audio and Video recompression presets - now you can save audio and video recompression parameters to quickly restore them later

  2. New design of DDSound Volume Control window

  3. Projects with mp3-compressed audio are opened almost instantly (after clip collection is saved once)

  4. Added support of DV-compressed AVI files with 'iavs' video stream type (created in Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.5 for example)

Fixed bugs:

  • Sometimes AVI files were saved incorrectly when video and/or audio recompression was used
  • Sometimes large (over 2Gb) AVI with national characters in their filenames were opened incorrectly (as if their size is less than 2Gb)
  • Some AVI files created in Matrox software were not opened
  • Sometimes playback of 32-bit audio files in 32-bit mode (on professional soundcards) caused crash
  • Crash in FIR Graphic Equalizer when changing size of filter length
  • Some other minor bugs

Miscellaneous changes:

  • Audio Settings (press F5): when 'None' is selected in the 'Waveform' drop-down list, waveform is not filled in the background - it ensures fast work when you really don't need waveform picture in audio clips and want to add audio files to project as fast as possible

DDClip Pro 3.5

New features:

  1. Added different audio/video interleaving modes for saving AVI files:

    Audio/video Interleaving

Selecting different audio preload/interleaving values can help to resolve problems with playback of AVI files with different players/video editing software. Click here for more details about audio and video export options.

  2. Added command File/Append Project - opens a project from another file and appends it to the end of currently opened project; its clip collection is added to current collection.

  3. Added command Separate Audio and Video on local menu of video clips - it allows you to separate audio and video of a clip to two independent clips directly on a video track. Separate A/V of selected clips performs the same operation for a group of selected clips with video and audio.

Fixed bugs:

  • Fixed problems with saving of MPEG files from DDClip using Darim Vision's DVMPEG codec. Now you can save MPEG1/MPEG2 video and audio files directly from DDClip using DVMPEG! Just select "DVMPEG Video" as video codec and "DVMPEG Audio" as audio codec in export options dialog and read documentation for DVMPEG for details.
Important: DVMPEG is not included with DDClip, you must register it independently! Please visit Darim Vision website for more details about DVMPEG.
  • Fixed playback of mp3-compressed audio files (playback was started only from the start of project).
  • Fixed Insert command: sometimes video of inserted clip was shifted by 1 frame.
  • When you select a profile of audio effect from effect local menu, it also switches to audio effects profiles editing mode.

Miscellaneous changes:

  • When you open an AVI file with compressed audio, and its audio compression format is not supported by DDClip, you can open only video stream of the file without decompressing audio stream to a WAV file.

DDClip Pro 3.5 Beta

New features:

  1. New look of icons on toolbars and track headers:

    New DDClip 3.5 Toolbar

See also fullscreen screenshot (1023x743 pixels, 122 kb).

  2. Support of the following compressed audio formats for real-time playback:

    • ADPCM/IMAADPCM (4-bit audio)
    • a-Law/u-Law (8-bit audio)
    • mp3 (files with both mp3 and WAV extensions)

All compressed files are being decompressed during playback of project without use of any temporary files. Note that decompressing requires additional CPU power, so your computer must be fast enough to use compressed audio in your projects (400 MHz or faster CPU is highly recommended for mp3 playback).

Important! The program contains no mp3 decompression code, you must have ACM mp3 codec installed in your system (typically file named l3codeca.acm stored in the system folder)! Note that hacked version of mp3 codec allows use of only one instance of it, so you won't be able to play more than one mp3 file at the time with hacked codec!

mp3 codec is not included with DDClip, it can be installed with some other software, for example Windows Media player version 7 or later (please visit Microsoft Download page to get it). It is already included with Windows ME and Windows XP.

  3. You can use audio files with different sample rates in one project. You can even change output playback sample rate any time (it is shown at the right bottom of the main Project window and can be changed in Audio Settings - press F5).

Note that all audio files with sample rate different from output sample rate of project are being resampled during playback, it requires additional CPU power and can produce some distortions in high-frequency components of sound (however, high-quality and very fast algorithm is used for resampling).

If you want to get best performance and quality of sound, it is highly recommended always use audio files with sample rate equal to output playback sample rate of project.

  4. You can save compressed audio file (both WAV and AVI) using any installed ACM audio codec when exporting audio to resulting media file (File/Export menu, press Options button in Save File dialog before saving resulting file, select Audio tab and configure desired codec in the Compression group).

    Selecting ACM audio compression codec

For example, you can save WAV file compressed with mp3 if you have ACM mp3 codec installed in your system.

  5. You can crop, resize and recompress video using any installed Video for Windows-compatible video codec when exporting video to resulting AVI file (File/Export menu, press Options button in Save File dialog before saving resulting file, select Video tab and configure desired codec in the Compression group).

    Selecting video compression codec

Click here for more details about audio and video compression.

  6. New audio effects with parameters automated by profiles on audio clips:

    (see also Features page)

All these effects allow you to control change of their parameters in time (for example, cut-off/central frequency of digital filters, delay time, input signal mix, processed signal mix etc.) with profiles on audio clips. Processing is being performed during playback without any use of temporary files.

Cut-off Frequency profile of Resonant Filter on audio clip Frequency response change of Profile Parametric Filter
Red line on audio clip shows profile that automates change of Cut-off Frequency of Profile Resonant Filter You can see how frequency response of digital filter is being changed during playback in effect's dialog

You can edit profiles of audio effects with the same manner as volume/balance profiles. Parameters will be changed during real-time playback with maximum possible processing quality (all parameters are recalculated before processing of every audio sample; it is impossible when using MIDI-automated DirectX plug-ins like DSP/FX).

However, it does not require extremely high processing power, you can use such effects even on slow computers (200 MHz CPU is enough for use of two-three such effects in mix of several audio tracks). You can also decrease processing quality for better performance in Settings (press F5)/Effects. It decreases CPU load up to two times or more almost without audible difference in sound.

You can download demo project and try profile audio effects in work. The project demonstrates how to get "wah-wah" pedal effects for processing solo guitar in real time. Click for more details about Demo project

Click for more details about Demo project
  7. Full DirectX plug-ins support - new DirectX plug-in Chainer. Allows use of any DirectX plug-ins including ones that:

    • Change length of processed audio data blocks
    • Convert mono to stereo
    • Process audio using very long audio data blocks

DirectX plug-ins can be used to process audio clips, tracks or entire mix (project) during playback without use of any temporary files.

Important! You must have DirectX Runtime installed on your system if you wish to use DirectX plug-ins with DDClip! Please visit Mircosoft DirectX page to download and install the latest DirectX Runtime. Follow DirectX Downloads page, locate DirectX Runtime suitable for your operating system and language and follow instructions on the page about how to download and install it.

  8. New high-quality audio effects:

    • Advanced Pan (and Profile Advanced Pan for processing audio clips) - allows you to perform panning using not only amplification of left/right channels, but also using delaying and lowpass filtering.
Such effect is absent in the most of other audio processing software.
    • FIR Graphic Equalizer - 10/20/30-band graphic equalizer based on the use of FIR (finite impulse response) filtering. It does not distort phase of audio being processing, it just changes volume in desired frequency bands giving highest-quality clear sound. Fast convolution algorithm (based on the use of Fast Fourier Transform) is used to get maximum speed of processing.
Such effect is absent in the most of other audio processing software.
    • Spectrum Analyzer - allows you to see spectrum of audio during playback. Different sizes of FFT, seven windowing functions, block overlapping, indication of maximum levels and different stereo modes are provided.

  9. Additional local menu for quick access to audio effects and audio effects' profiles:

Audio effects local menu on track Audio effects local menu on clip
Audio effects local menu for quick access to audio effects and effects list on tracks Audio effects local menu for quick access to audio effects and switching between effects' profiles on clips

You can call additional local menu by pressing right mouse button over triangle (that indicates presence of audio effects), or by pressing Shift+A on keyboard when mouse cursor is over a clip, track header or current time window (for master audio effects).

This menu allows you to quickly open desired audio effect, effects list or switch between active effects' profiles on audio clip. You can just press key on keyboard to activate desired menu item (0, 1...9, A, B... - see at the left of menu item). Currently active (turned on) audio effects and active profiles for each audio effect are marked with check sign.

  10. Now you can see estimated and elapsed time of all long-time operations on progress bar:

Progress of writing of AVI file

Miscellaneous changes:

  • Better support of multiple CPU systems for processing and mixing audio tracks.
  • Fast update of audio level meter during playback and recording audio.
  • Fast reaction on change of audio processing parameters (tracks volume, solo/mute buttons, settings of audio effects) during real-time playback. Set audio buffer size to 0.1 second in Settings (press F5)/Audio, and you will get 0.1 second time of reaction on change of playback and processing parameters.
  • You can change size of Audio effects selection dialog when adding audio effects, and its size and position will be saved for next time when you open it again.
  • List of installed audio effects is always shown immediately (no delay even when you open it for the first time after program start).
  • More stable launch of external audio editor for several selected audio clips immediately.

Fixed bugs:

  • DirectX plug-in Chainer: fixed many bugs and re-designed, now it should support all plug-ins correctly.
  • Fixed saving of frames with odd length in bytes to AVI files (AVI files compressed with some video codecs sometimes were not played with Windows Media Player).
  • Buttons Frame Left/Frame Right on the toolbar are shown and hidden correctly (depending on is video used in project or not).
  • When you turn project's audio channels to mono, panorama profile editing mode it switched to volume profile editing mode.
  • Fixed preview of video clips in the Clip Collection window: current time position in the Project window is not changed during preview.
  • Fixed preview of audio clips in the Clip Collection window: after preview is done, Play/Stop buttons on the toolbar are updated correctly.
  • Video window: "Minimize to taskbar" was not saved to the program's settings.
