The complex will consist of several dynamical cabins, each with
it's own visualization system. The visualization systems are
connected via network, thus constituting a distributed interactive
system.
The purpose of the complex is entertainment. Users participating in the races can ride their vehicles in the virtual environment, and, what is important, see their peers there, riding their respective (virtual) cars. The environment will include various roads, plants, buildings, seashore etc. etc. The route is going to be about 50 kilometers of roads with different pavement, environment, obstacles etc.
The project is being made in conjunction with Darim Co., Korea , who is making the mechanical part and the modelling of dynamics. We are making the visualization and the networking.
The networking enables a user to see one's peers' cars in the virtual environment and compete with them. But there not only such cars exist, but also totally virtual ones, controlled by virtual, "artificially intelligent" drivers, also taking part in the races.
The graphics is Pentium based, but unlike for PC games, it is 640x480, it has fog and all those effects you can find in "real" simulators, so it is much more realistic.
A demo version of the visual subsystem is available
here . Note: it has
less memory requirements.
Limitations of the demo:
It has dynamics and 640x480 graphics with texture and fog, so if you have a Pentium with an SVGA card, it can be fun. Yet the demo will run with sound effects, if you have a SB-compatible sound card.
A similar project is Driving Simulator . And it has a working demo, too. So, if you like this one, it is worth looking into it also.
