Grabber support for Videoconferencing Tools for MBONE is available for Windows

The mbone tools have been ported to run on Windows 95 and Windows NT!

The original versions have been ported by John Brezak of HP and Van Jacobson of Lawrence Berkeley Labs. For more information about VIC look at the VIC home page. Our versions extend their capabilities by adding:

• Video For Windows compatible capture driver support for VIC - added by Amir Jantimirov.
• a bug fix for complete full-duplex support for VAT. (for full-duplex soundcards) - by Vladimir Sadov.

Before you download the code and expect to run it, please note:

• This is a beta release.
• Routing of MBONE packets to your local network is required. Talk to your network manager/provider/admin - the routing may already be set up to receive mbone packets, or they will have to set it up for you.

To get and install the package:

1. Download file vicvat.exe
2. The file is a self-extracting archive. When the file is downloaded, either click on it to start, if you are in Windows, or go to DOS and in the directory, where you saved the file, enter

   vicvat.exe <enter>
   

   several files will be created as a result of the extraction.

The sources of VAT and VIC are free. Contact us to obtain the sourses of VAT and VIC with our modifications.

Run:

VAT and VIC can be run from a command line or a DOS session. The command line syntax for vic is as follows:

vic.exe [IP address]/[Port number] <enter>

vat.exe [IP address]/[Port number] <enter>

Another attempt at getting VIC to capture video under Windows was made by Isidor Kouvelas.

Commercial MBONE software is available from Precept Software. Their tools are intended for the TV metaphor - you can't use them for conferencing.
