Albatros - real-time computer image generator

Albatros was the next step in the line of computer image generators made at the Institute of Automation and Electrometry SD RAS and used as visualization systems for training complexes for astronauts and military pilots. Albatros is the largest system like that in Russia.

Albatros is currently used in the following training tasks:

• to perfect docking of space vehicles with Mir space station modules
• to perfect open space missions
• for training of pilots of sea- and land-based aviation.

SoftLab-Nsk made the software for it:

• Modelling system - a suite of software to create visual models.
• Terrain generation system - software to facilitate creation of large terrain models
• Animation subsystem
• Communication subsystem
• The generator hardware hosted program, (that is, a program executed by the special-purpose processor of Albatros) which was mainly the renderer. We also made the development system for that processor, to facilitate the development of that program.
