Requirements
-
Pentium
-
vesa-compatible VGA card with at least 512K videoRAM.
Vast majority of modern videocards meet this criteria,
so most likely does yours. Some older cards require
some program started before the application, to provide
vesa-compatible interface.
(Do not mix with vesa local bus - this is a different thing.)
-
8 Megabytes of RAM (6.5 free extended memory)
-
Mouse
-
DOS 5.0 or higher or Windows95. When Windows95 is used, DOS mode is strongly recommended
-
DOS driver for the mouse. (Also needed in DOS mode of Win95, but not in Win95 dos window.)
-
SoundBlaster-compatible sound card (optional, for sound effects)
To get the demo running:
-
Download the demo:
When asked about how to handle the file,
choose "Save To Disk", and select the location where you want the demo
to reside; it should be some empty directory.
If you have problems downloading the demo via http,
the same demo is available via ftp:
For hints on dealing with
poor connections click here.
-
The file is a self-extracting archive.
When the file is downloaded, either click on it to start if you are in Windows,
or go to DOS and in the directory where you saved the file enter
cardemo.exe <enter>
several files will be created as a result of the extraction.
-
To have sound effects, you should have your SB-compatible
card properly set up. This means that the board should
be configured, the drivers (if the board needs them)
should be in config.sys and the BLASTER environment variable
should be set properly.
The setup software that comes with the card usually arranges
all this for you.
Also, to have sound effects, edit file named carv.ini in
the subdirectory where the demo resides, and change line
- sound=off
- to
- sound=on
-
To start the demo enter:
demo1.bat <enter>
